Paris Diary | Day Two: Armistice Day - Musée de l'Armée and Notre-Dame Cathederal

Our second day in Paris happened to coincide with Armistice day, so we planned on visiting the Army Museum in Paris and Notre Dame Cathederal. Instead of travelling around Paris via the Metro or a tour bus, we instead opted to do most of it on foot. This was perfect for us, as it really helped capture the beauty of the city. That, and we got to see all the different spots in our own time.

We again walked past the Eiffel Tower, stopping to admire its beauty once again. Then it was on to the Musée de l'Armée. Overall, it took about 30 minutes from the hotel.

Isn't the building gorgeous? It may sound weird but I'm absolutely fascinated by architecture - give me a camera and a big building and I'll be happy for hours. We walked through the main area, which chronicled the history of the French army from the 13th century, through Napoleon III to the two World Wars. It was eye opening and fascinating, and I must say refreshing to see a different army history.

Afterwards, we headed over to the dome to view the tomb of Napoleon I. Everything inside was so grand and breathtaking, I was blown away.

We headed on from the Army Museum towards Notre-Dame Cathederal, and you could spot it from a mile away. One: because its absolutely huge, and two - there was a massive array of people outside. We didn't know it at the time, but as we queued up there was actually a ceremony about to take place inside.

Inside there were candle tiers, and for a small donation you could get your own candle and light it in remembrance of those lost during the war. The place was buzzing with people, and there were numerous people present representing different countries in remembrance.

Overall, the day was a perfect way to spend Armistice Day, and really helped us reflect on those who had lost their lives.
