Waxing is scary business. Very, very scary business. Hands up if you've ever had your own horror story or terrible experience with waxing? I know I certainly have. For me, it was bikini waxing, which says all you need to know really, and I still shudder at the memory now. Let's just say the wax didn't work properly, and couldn't be picked up with the strips. In all honesty, I'm still not sure how I survived the experience. *Shudder*
When Veet first contacting me asking me if I would like to do a collaboration with them, I was both happy and hesitant. With the memory of my last wax experience still burned in my mind, I was pretty much chewing on my lip whilst my mind raced through all the pros and cons of waxing. In the end, I decided to bite the bullet - it was something new, and if all else failed, I figured it would make a pretty amusing blog post!
Upon receiving the 'Veet Easy Wax Electrical Roll-On Kit*', which can be found in Boots stores and online here, my nerves started to ease. It didn't look as intimidating as the wax kit I used last time, mainly due to the fact that a) I wouldn't be using it on such an intimate area, and b) it wasn't some cheap kit I picked up when I was a poor student.
The kit comes with the following items: A self heating device and it's cap, a base to hold the device, a 50ml roll-on wax refill, 4 veet perfect finish wipes, an electrical cable and an instruction leaflet.
The roll on device has to be plugged in to heat up before use, and this takes around 20-30 mins maximum. Before use, it is highly recommended that you check the temperature before applying - after all, you don't want to accidentally burn your skin! Once it's heated up, you can leave the device plugged in whilst you wax as it will regulate its own temperature; otherwise, you can unplug it and it will stay at it's optimum temperature for around 15 minutes.
Rolling on in the direction of hair growth, you're meant to go the length from knee to ankle and immediately press the strip over the top, leaving around a centimetre at the bottom to grip. Holding your skin taut, you then pull the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth - they say to do this as quickly as possible, as it will remove more hair the quicker you do it. For any excess wax left on the skin, the perfect finish wipes remove any traces of the product left.
So, how did I get on with the product? Thankfully it wasn't as painful and traumatic as my last experience, but it still stung quite a bit. I guess there will never be a wax that is completely pain free!
As I exfoliated the night before, my skin felt a bit smoother and softer. There were some hairs that were missed with waxing, as I guess they were too small for the strips to pick up (veet recommend that the hair be at least 2mm long for optimal results). I went over a couple of patches with a razor afterwards, but overall the wax managed to pick up the majority of the hair on my lower legs.
After waxing, Veet suggest that you may be hair free for up to 28 days, but this obviously will vary from person to person. Plus, waxing regularly will mean the hairs will grow back fewer, finer and softer. That for me is a bonus right there because I'm constantly getting sick of having to shave my legs a couple of times a week!
With one 50ml cartridge included in the pack, I'd say I only have about a third of wax left, so I definitely need to purchase another cartridge before waxing again. Otherwise I'd end up only having one leg waxed, and lets face it, that would not be good. Amazon sells the cartridges at £9.99 each, which can seem quite steep. However I'd consider this a pretty decent investment to be honest, as it would be used less than a razor, which can be expensive themselves.
Altogether I'm really impressed with this waxing kit - it's completely changed my opinion of waxing! Whilst it's not completely pain free, it's not as painful as I remember either. With such smooth legs, I think I may have found a better alternative to shaving! This product is fantastic, and is the perfect home waxing kit to get smooth legs for summer.
