If there's one thing that suffers in the dry, cold weather, its definitely our lips. Now I can't speak for everyone here, but one of my biggest irritations is flaky and chapped lips. It bothers me to no end! Plus, if I get nervous I end up picking at them slightly without even realising, and then it all ends up in one big mess. Thankfully, with the help of this handy duo recently my lips have never looked better!
Before I started blogging, I was never really into lipsticks much (I have Hannah to blame for converting me!). I was definitely more of a slick of lip balm or a simple gloss kind of gal, and lipstick just seemed like way too much effort than it was worth to me. So since starting beauty blogging, I have racked up an impressive (albeit expensive) lipstick collection, and matte lipsticks are definitely my thing. But as everyone knows, matte lipsticks take quite a bit of maintenance, and it becomes obvious when lips aren't hydrated enough. And thats where Lush come in and steal the spotlight - they have some truly fantastic lip products that deserve a bit of praise!
One of my favourite lip products and a favourite Lush product of mine has to be the 'Bubblegum' Lip Scrub. A solid favourite, the lip scrub has a gorgeously sweet scent that could pretty much appeal to anyone - Lush always manage to hit the nail on the head when it comes to fragrances don't they?! A simple sugar scrub, the 25g pot can seem a bit of a high price (£5.50) for what it essentially is - simply caster sugar used to exfoliate the lips. I imagine it would be simple enough to create a homemade version for less, but one of the things I love about this scrub is the yummy scent it comes with - plus the fact that I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to homemade alternatives makes this scrub all the more appealing. Its the perfect size to keep in your bag for on the go too, which is definitely handy for keeping lips in top condition throughout the day.
A relatively new product, I actually received this 'Key Lime Pie' Lip Balm* as part of a blogger event at Lush last year. I must admit, at first I didn't think it would be my kind of product as I'm normally very fussy when it comes to citrus scents - but I was pleasantly surprised with this little gem. Whilst it does have citrusy and lime tones throughout, I swear it smells like Starburst sweets to me - scents that mimic sweets pretty much guarantees that the product will be a hit for me. As the balm is meant to smell like the classic 'Key Lime Pie' dessert, I can't genuinely say if this is in fact true as I have never tried it for myself. However, if it smells as good as this lip balm then you can pretty much bet that it will be a hit for me.
Unlike the other lip balms such as 'Honey Trap', this balm seems to have a very different consistency. Whilst 'Honey Trap' was more of a buttery kind of balm that glided on easily and slightly thick, 'Key Lime Pie' doesn't seem to be as heavy on the lips. Instead, it feels more of an oily sort of balm, as it going on thinner but still gives great coverage. Plus, it leaves a slightly glossy trace on the lips, giving them a bit of a healthier look without being too over the top. It seems to be thicker in the pot than the other balms too, making this pretty good value for money in my eyes as I can see it lasting a fair while. My only downside to this balm has to be how it will hold up in warmer weather - I can see it melting a bit easily in the summer months if I were to keep it in my work bag, so I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye on it and pray for the best!
Whilst both of these products have their own individual benefits, for me they definitely work best as part of a team! By getting rid of dry, chapped lips with 'Bubblegum' and making them nice and soft with 'Key Lime Pie', lipstick goes on easily and flawlessly, and helps to keep then nourished throughout the day. I couldn't recommend these two more if I tried - the perfect chapped lip duo!
