Sometimes there's nothing better than a good manicure, am I right? After a long day or week at work, there's nothing I love more than coming home, picking a nice nail polish and giving myself a little pamper. Even with an entire draw of polishes and such a wide range of colours, I'm always on the look out for more because I love finding all sorts of different shades and styles - my current obsession has to be the gel look!
Ever since I started on a new department at work, I've had to give my hands and nails some extra TLC on pretty much a weekly basis. Because I use my hands so much throughout the day, I've noticed that my skin will often become quite dry and sometimes even become sore and painful. It's been made even worse recently as my left wrist and hand have had to be put back in a splint due to an accident I had a couple of years ago. Usually I am left handed, but with it immobile now more pressure has been put on my right hand. So you can imagine how much I'm struggling at the moment!
Whilst my hands seem to suffer the brunt of my work, my nails can also be affected if I'm not careful enough. Up until about the time I started beauty blogging, I'd been terrible with biting my nails. It's a disgusting habit I know, but studying for a law degree can get stressful at times believe me! Thankfully I managed to kick the habit and I've been letting them grow for a while now, but because of how much I use my hands they're really easy to snap. I have found one solution though: by keeping my nails polished and using a top and base coat, it tends to strengthen my nails a bit more and makes them less likely to break. Wahoo! The perfect reason to give my hands and nails a bit of a pamper frequently, right?!
Topshop have always been one of my go-to brands when it comes to fashion - their clothes are always to die for and more often than not I'll spend a good chunk of my wages in there. And I've always been a fan of their beauty range too - they've always had cute and irresistible colours in nail polishes and their lip products are amazing!
So when it came to their new 'Denim Nails' collection, styled after their hugely popular range of jeans, its understandable that I got very excited. Everyone has that one colour that suits them best, and mine definitely has to be blue without a doubt. I just love the way it looks, and you can't go wrong with pretty much any shade of blue - they all look good don't they!

Left to Right: 'Jamie', 'Leigh', 'Hayden', 'Lucas', 'Mom' and 'Joni' (Press Image) |
The new Spring/Summer 2016 denim collection is inspired by Topshop's own range of jeans, and each shade is paired to an individual style. With six shades to choose from, and colours ranging for a stunning dark blue to an off-white, there's definitely a shade to suit everyones preferences. Whilst at first glance it may look like any other nail polishes, the range is in fact so much more than that - each colour has been individually designed to match some of Topshop's best selling jeans, and when paired together are a fantastic fashion statement.
If you're a fan of chic and skinny jeans, then the inky blue shade 'Leigh' may be for you. Or maybe you're a fan of high-waisted skinny jeans? If thats the case, the gorgeous deep petrol blue 'Jamie' may be right up your street. Maybe you prefer to rock jeans with a more tapered fit - then why not treat yourself to the bright and vivid baby blue 'Mom' polish to match? Or, if you're the same as me and love a boyfriend fit, then why not style them with the dusky blue 'Lucas?' And if you prefer an even looser boyfriend fit, then the gorgeous deep ocean blue 'Hayden' might be your perfect match. And finally, if you're really adventurous and love rocking off-white jeans then 'Joni' is the ideal shade to match such a bold fashion statement! I can't say I own any white jeans personally, but if they're anything like this gorgeous white then I may have to invest in a pair pronto!
All of the shades are ridiculously gorgeous, and it's seriously hard for me to pick favourites because I genuinely love each shade. In the end, I went for the cute white 'Joni'* and the stunning ocean blue 'Hayden'*.
For some reason I'm not quite sure of, I only own one other shade of white. It's bizarre really, as out of every colour out there, white has been the one I've experimented with least. And even then I think I've only used it once or twice here and there. So for that reason, I decided to give 'Joni' a go - it's something different to the other shades, and also a nail colour I've never really given much of a go.
Thankfully it paid off, because 'Joni' has now creeped its way up my list of favourite nail colours. Once it's on, you can see that it's not completely pure white but has slightly a duller tone to it, making it different to your other standard whites. It's pretty thick too, so much so that you'd only need one coat and a clear top coat for it's full effect. I loved wearing this one to work as I got quite a few compliments on it, and when it's caught in the light it does looksabsolutely gorgeous.
'Hayden' on the other hand, is such a beautiful shade of blue that is pretty mesmerising. Unlike some of the other colours in the collection, 'Hayden' is more of a warmer shade, something you wouldn't necessarily associate with blues. I have a pretty huge nail collection going on (an entire draw full I'll admit) but I don't think any others quite match up to this one. I own baby blues, bright blues, dark blues, but not any in the middle really. I think thats why this colour appealed to me so much. It reminds me so much of the ocean, especially as it gets deeper. Plus this shade matches the looser boyfriend jeans that Topshop have made popular, and boy I do love a boyfriend fit.
Each polish is pretty thick, making it ideal if you're in a little bit of a rush as both of them would only really need one coat. They both have a stunning finish to them and look very glossy, and that's even without a top coat if you didn't want one! The drying time was pretty impressive too - if the coat hasn't been put on too thick, then the polish will dry fairly quickly. Obviously as a nail polish it won't be dry completely for a bit, but once it's started to set you can do some minimal movements with your hands provided you don't knock or nudge them too hard.
Overall, I'm seriously happy with both 'Joni' and 'Hayden'. The strength of the colours once on are very impressive, especially after only one coat. I love that they're not watery on application like some nail polishes I've come across before, and that's whats boosted Topshop Beauty up my list of favourite nail polish brands. I can't wait to head into town and get my hand on the other shades in the denim collection - I'm sensing that they're going to be pretty popular! How about you - have you tried some products from Topshop Beauty before? Or maybe you've tried some of their nail polishes? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
