Painting my nails and having a little pamper is one of my favourite things to do after a long, hard day. There's something so soothing and relaxing about having a little manicure session, and it's guaranteed to perk anyone up - well, it does for me! With a pretty sizeable nail polish collection, I can always find a colour to fit my mood. Heck, I could even give most Boots stores a run for their money with the amount of nail polishes I have! When it comes to choosing, I have a pretty sizeable draw full to the brim with different options, spanning numerous brands, colours, finishes etc. At least I'm never short of options, right?
One of the biggest problems about giving yourself a home manicure has to be the waiting time afterwards - it feels like you have to wait forever for them to dry. As quite an impatient person (it's true, just ask any of my friends) I hate having to sit around for my nails to dry before I can do anything. By the time I get home every day and get everything sorted, it will already be early evening and I'll more than likely be in bed by 8 watching TV. Now I'm not sure if it's because I'm a little impatient or because I tend to stick another coat on before the first has finished drying, but more often than not I'll get a smudge here and there. It's a pain in the butt and no matter what I do, I'll always wake up in the morning to at least a slight knock.
I'm not sure how I happened across OPI's nail drying products one day, but boy am I glad I did. For anyone like me, the products are designed to reduce drying time and get you back to using your hands (without fear of smudging) a lot quicker than you normally would. I stumbled upon OPIs 'Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops' first, and whilst the £13.50 price tag did seem pretty high for quite a small bottle, I hoped it would be worth the sacrifice. As per the instructions, I left my nails for 60 seconds before applying a couple of drops from the pipette (you only need the tiniest amount), before making sure each nail was covered with it completely. Leaving it for another 60 seconds before testing, I was pretty happy to see that whilst it wasn't completely dry, the top coat had hardened slightly and didn't smudge as easily. Whilst a little impressive, the price is a bit steep for me considering what it is.
The OPI 'RapiDry Quick Drying Top Coat' however couldn't be any more different - it's completely changed the way I do my nails, and for the better. At £13.25 a bottle I did wince slightly, especially when you consider that it's almost £30 on only two nail products. Like the drops you need to wait a minute or so before applying on top of your chosen colour, otherwise it can get pretty messy and quite sticky. It takes a little while to get used to in my opinion, and is a lot thicker than your standard top coat, but it is impressively worth the hassle. The brush itself is an ideal size, spreading out the varnish easily and smoothly. A few minutes after application my entire manicure was set and dry to the touch, which made me crazily happy. It left a beautiful glossy finish to my nails too, and lasted up to a week without any nicks or chips.
With the combination of the both of them, OPI have an incredibly impressive duo in their arsenal. Now, for a standard manicure, I tend to use the drying drops to dry each layer and the quick dry top coat to give the whole look a finishing touch.
